Job Description
The Junior Sales Manager is an integral and important part of Smiths Detection Inc., supporting Strategic and Key Accounts and building customer relationships. This position is an individual contributor role and will support sales opportunities of Smiths Detection's range of security screening systems for specific customer groups.
Additional responsibilities include all aspects of the sales process.
SPECIFIC DUTIES, ACTIVITIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:
Responsibilities
- Support new business with new and existing customers.
- Gain familiarity with Smiths Detection Key and Strategic Accounts as assigned.
- Support the creation of Sales Plans for the assigned market/customer. The Sales Plan will be updated annually and executed throughout the year
- Proactively gain understanding of the market and business drivers and provide strategic inputs (both qualitative and quantitative) to the Sales teams and active involvement in the setting up of the yearly sales budgets.
- Support the reporting of sales numbers and ensuring the accuracy of the sales data in SAP for the assigned market vertical. Ensure timely and accurate reporting.
- Drive exploration of new opportunities and tap profitable business opportunities resulting in New Customer Acquisition
- Ensure Customer Satisfaction and Key Client Retention
- Pro-active coordination within all the departments of the organization to ensure smooth flow of business
- Work closely with the Programs team for smooth and profitable completion of projects.
- All aspects of the sales process, including but not limited to:
- Prospecting and identification of potential customers.
- Creating/managing existing/new customer relationships.
- Arranging and conducting product demonstrations.
- Participating in trade exhibitions/conferences.
- Creating quotations to customers/prospects.
- Contributing to major proposals for the territory.
- Participate in product/sales skills training as required.
- Participate/contribute to internal sales meetings.
- Comply with Company health, safety and environmental policies.
- Comply with the company compliance and business ethics policy
- Comply with all applicable export/import control and security regulations.
- Any other tasks assigned by the Director Sales to this role from time and time and not covered above
Qualifications
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
Education/Training: Bachelor’s Degree preferred.
Experience:
- Completion of a college degree in Engineering, Business, or related discipline
- 2 to 5 years of professional experience and demonstrable success in Sales/Marketing or Business Development selling capital intensive
- Technology products/solutions preferably homeland security-related systems.
- Exposure in technology solutions or selling to customers in market segments such as Aviation, Ports & Borders.
- Experience within a process driven and disciplined sales organization.
Knowledge/Skills:
- Self-motivated and proactive approach to managing a Sales assignment
- Establish and maintain a professional relationship with customers/partners/prospects
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Ability to present information in front of a large group
OTHER JOB REQUIREMENTS
- Have a passion for learning and building strong relationships
- Will be required to travel on average 25% of the month
- Ability to think strategically and develop strategic plans
- Ability to work independently
- Deal with different personalities and overcome communication barriers, able to work effectively in a multicultural environment

The compensation for this position ranges from $15.00 - $35.00/hr and will vary depending on factors including level of school completed and type of position requirements for skills, whether technical or non-technical.
